Calm by design.
Deliberate by default.

Nearby makes a crypto payment feel as simple as handing someone cash — so the moments that matter have to be unmistakable. These are the principles the Nearby app is being designed around.

In development. Nearby hasn’t launched, and it hasn’t been through a security audit yet. Nothing on this page is a claim of an audit, certification or guarantee — it describes how the app is being built.

Security principles

Before you sign

Every payment pauses on one screen you can read.

  • You review the intended recipient.

Their name and profile are on the review screen before anything is signed.

  • You explicitly review the asset and the amount.

No defaults you didn’t see, no amounts filled in for you.

  • Transaction details are verified before signing.

What you sign is built from exactly what you reviewed.

  • You can cancel before signing.

Until you confirm, nothing has been sent and nothing is pending.

Proximity is context, not proof

Being close helps you find someone. It doesn’t tell you who they are.

  • Proximity alone is never treated as proof of identity.

Nearby shows you an authenticated profile; you confirm it’s the person you mean.

  • Sensitive wallet information isn’t exposed to nearby devices.

Phones around you see a short-lived signal and a profile — not your wallet address.

Receiving preferences

What you accept is set by you, ahead of time.

  • Preferences are tied to a verified app session.

Receiving preferences are associated with your authenticated Nearby session or another appropriate authentication method — not with whoever happens to be nearby.

After you confirm

Honest status, and no surprises.

  • Status is reported accurately.

Signed, submitted, settled — or failed. You see what actually happened.

  • Nothing changes after confirmation.

The app never silently changes the recipient, asset or amount after you confirm.

How Maya becomes payable —
without sharing an address.

  1. Sign in

Create your Nearby profile and sign in on your phone.

  2. Link a wallet

Connect the wallet you want to receive into. Your keys stay yours.

  3. Set preferences

Choose what you can receive. You do this once, in advance.

  4. Turn on receiving

Become visible to people nearby — only while you choose to be.

  5. Get paid

A sender picks you by name. Your preferences prepare the route; you see it arrive.

Your keys stay
on your phone.

You approve every payment on your own device. The app is being designed so private keys and recovery phrases are never sent to a Nearby server — and never shared with the phones around you.

Settlement happens on Robinhood Chain, so every completed payment has an on-chain transaction behind it.

What we’re
not claiming.

  • No security audit has been completed yet.
  • No certifications — and no cryptographic guarantees beyond what the network itself provides.
  • Nearby starts on Android, where it finds people over Bluetooth. The iPhone version, coming later, may work differently.
  • Supported assets will be confirmed before launch. Examples on this site are illustrative.

Simple to use. Deliberate to confirm.

The Nearby app is in development. Follow along for the real thing.
